Intelligent vehicle Monitoring System : VehiScan^® is real time vehicle monitoring system using automatic number plate reading for tracking and identification of hotlisted (stolen, suspected and barred) vehicle, as part of city surveillance solution. VehiScan^® is used for Bordercheck post, Toll Gates/ Booths, Entry/Exit Traffic Surveillance, City Surveillance and Traffic law enforcement applications, where the number plate of vehicles entering is captured and an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) done to read out the numbers.

The VehiScan^® analyzes, in real time, a video stream from camera or media storage (analog or digital). The VehiScan^® supports the common media format and video stream from camera. Recognized car license plates are stored into a database and can be verified against a number of user-defined criteria.

Intelligent Vehicle Monitoring System: VehiScan^® employs sophisticated image processing and computer vision techniques to recognize the license plate numbers. The various steps in the process are

Pre-processing for noise removal and image sharpening
License Plate Localization by using morphological patterns of characters.
License Plate Normalization to correct orientation and contrast of characters
License Plate Segmentation to separate the different characters
OCR or recognition of the characters
Syntactic/Semantic analysis based on the geographical region

VehiScan^® employs multiple pattern recognition algorithms for the OCR modules. SVM, ANN, Gaussain mixture models, linear discriminants are some of the standard pattern classifiers which are used in OCR algorithms. Apart from the above-mentioned modules of the recognition process, a consistency and clustering strategy is built into the VehiScan^® system to ensure temporal consolidation.
